Fitting (or removal)
Fitting or removal is simple and takes seconds, requiring no special skills. However, gaining access to pots should only be undertaken by a suitably experienced person using appropriate access equipment.
o Pots need to be in sound condition. Any cracked pot should either be replaced or suitably bound to accept lateral pressure from the retaining spring wires.
o The C-Cap is for use on redundant, disused chimneys only. Care needs to be taken that capping is not carried out to any flue that is still in use. Check it first!
o As with any capping, the flue should preferably be swept clean and any obstruction (e.g. bird's nests) removed.
o C-Cap has been site-tested over 10 years and in severe gale conditions from Cornwall to the Orkneys.
o Tough, moulded cowl ideally suited to outdoor applications, the C-Cap fits neatly over the chimney pot where it is retained by galvanised steel spring wires.
It can be fitted to any standard round pot up to 280mm diameter and is light enough to allow several to easily be carried up the roof, where fitting to the pot takes a matter of seconds.
o Many thousands of C-Caps are fitted throughout the UK, as far north as the Orkneys, and it is the only cowl for disused chimneys that guarantees 100% protection against rain, snow, gales, birds etc. - in fact everything nature can throw at it.
o All C-Caps are supplied with an optional 'insect screen' to provide additional protection against nesting wasps. This can simply be fitted with the C-Cap at the discretion of you, as appropriate.
o Pots need to be in sound condition. Any cracked pot should either be replaced or suitably strapped to allow insertion of the C-Cap retaining wires.
o The unique design of the C-Cap allows continuous, permanent ventilation of the chimney, as recommended by Building Research Establishment (BRE).

Choosing the Correct Size
How to choose a Chimney Cap or Chimney Cowl for your Chimney PotIf you can accurately guess the size or width of the chimney pot from the floor you can order the right Cap or Cowl from Chimney Cowl Products. The good news is this is relatively easy once you know the rough size of a house brick and the thickness of the walls of a chimney pot.
Using either the naked eye or a set of binoculars get a 'side on' view of the chimney pot you wish to cap or fit a chimney cowl, then find a full sized brick nearest to the chosen pot as a reference, normally directly underneath.
Now imagine that the brick is placed on top of the chimney pot itself and make a mental note whether it would fit inside, hang over, or sit flush. It may sound silly but once you know that the width of an average UK house brick is 225mm ( 9" ) for imperial or 215 ( 8 and half " ) on a modern property, it provides a very accurate impromptu tape measure.
The other factor you may need is internal pot size, this can also be guessed quite accurately if you know the average thickness of a chimney pot is about 25mm ( 1" ) , simply factor this in and you can work out most chimney pot width's quite accurately.
If you have large decorative rolls on top of the pot, make an allowance for this by guessing, using a brick as your guide.
That's it, our range of Chimney Cowls and Caps are all available for immediate delivery.
